In 1976, REALTOR® Bill Carey coordinated a new fundraiser to benefit the charity of his choice - the American Diabetes Association - among other local needs and requests.
His new idea was to sponsor a one-day golf scramble, with 144 players, on a warm June afternoon, and with prizes for everyone who participated. Enjoy some lunch, socialize, and have some fun!
This new event would also be played at his new development on Highway 231 called Fox Run.The Four-Man Format allowed any player to be part of the team - regardless of skill level - playing best-ball from each player's shot.
If a play got a hole-in-one, they would win a new CAR!
Many gifts and prizes were added to engage more players and support for the Diabetes Association.
In 1997, Bill saw a need for additional support for the REALTOR® Scholarship Program, and volunteered to share the proceeds of this event to help fund additional scholarships.Over the years, many other groups have started a tradition of fun and funds through golf scrambles, but this is the ORIGINAL - the FIRST charity golf scramble in Rutherford County! This annual event - now proudly supported and coordinated by MTAR and its members - has raised over $200,000 to support these programs!
